It all starts with an OpenSSL certificate. These are the same certificates that banks use to secure their web sites. But with The Port Defender Secure Network there are two certificates, one for you and one for our server. We issue our own certificates from our own Certificate Authority. These certificates are used by our version of OpenVPN to prove that you belong on our network and that we are the network you think we are. And that's it! Our certificates are only available from us and they are only used to connect to the Port Defender Network.
When you login to the Port Defender Secure Network the software creates a temporary encrypted connection and exchanges certificates in a secure way that so that no one else can duplicate them. You verify our certificate and we verify yours. If we both agree the certificates are correct the application opens a single secure, encrypted channel for communications between us. We are both verified and authenticated.
Next The Port Defender Secure Network assigns you a new ip address from our private network pool. This is your private on-ramp to the Port Defender Network. Only your computer and our network know this ip address.
Then The Port Defender Secure Network directs all Internet traffic from all other ports on your computer through our one secure port to our server. There it is decoded, converted back to the normal port numbers and forwarded to the Internet. Except now your ip address (both your regular address and our secret address) is changed to The Port Defender Secure Network on-ramp address. No one can get your ip address which means that no one can tell where you are. And if you turn off "cookies" no one can tell who you are.
But wait, there's more!
Along with a secure Internet you get access to our members only services. Your personal valet keeps your email safely online, accessible only through your secure, encrypted connection. There are also private and group shared calendars, notes, tasks and more ... all safe from anyone stealing your laptop or implanting a virus to copy your data.
Share your travels, photos and news with other Port Defender Secure Network members in our Club House. A meeting place for members only. A meeting place free from advertising and bad behavior. A social network your employer can't access unless they are a member!
There are blogs, groups, forums and much more in our members only Club House.
Last but not least we don't tolerate criminal or antisocial behavior. We monitor our traffic for things like repeated login failures and illicit posts. We run a clean and friendly network.
And when your done just click exit and your computer is returned to it's normal state.
